What is an AED Automated External Defibrillator

You’ve seen them in the movies, in medical shows and maybe on a wall at your local sports club, school or shopping centre.

But what is an AED, and how does it save lives?

An AED or automated external defibrillator is a portable electronic device, consisting of a main battery-powered unit and 2 x electrodes pads, that when applied to a collapsed victim, can automatically diagnose and treat a life-threatening heart rhythm, known as Cardiac Arrest.

Magic right? So...

How does an AED treat Cardiac Arrest?

When an AED detects a shockable life-threatening cardiac rhythm, the defibrillator will then proceed to deliver an electrical shock, via the attached electrode pads in order to restart the heart and regain a normal effective rhythm.

How do I use an AED Defibrillator?

Public access defibrillators for sale in Australia are designed to be simple to store and use, so that they can be operated by any bystander, no matter their training or lack of, or their familiarity with the AED machine.

Essentially, to operate an AED you simply turn it on and follow the audible prompts. That's it. It will lead a bystander through the steps and even instruct them on how to provide basic CPR.

But time matters. Every second counts!

Why time is critical in operating an AED

Recent studies have shown that applying an AED on a victim of cardiac arrest within the first 5 minutes is critical to its’ effectiveness. In fact, chance of survival decreases by around 10% with every minute that passed after cardiac arrest.

That’s why we’ve tried and tested the best defibrillators in Australia and stock only a select and limited range of AEDs that we believe are the best quality, most affordable to buy and maintain and are the easiest to use when seconds count!
